The Great Gatsby is a raw written by F. Scott Fitzgerald. In this novel Fitzgerald candidly depicts human nature at its worst, and the corrupted version of the American Dream. The figurative stage is set in the Roaring Twenties, a clock period in which America experienced peace, prosperity and partying. The U.S. had however come out of World War I exultant and was enjoying the spoils of war. Worldwide peace had settled into the hearts of every man woman and child and Americans were in the desire for celebrating. The economy was booming, the pullulate market was strong and most flock had money to spend.
Alcohol had been illegalized by the 18th amendment in 1917. Boot-legging was in full swing and speak-easys were popping up everywhere. Boot-legging was a lucrative business venture for those daring enough to sign up the risks and threats it brought with it. This is the setting in which Tom and Daisy Buchanan, Nick Carraway and Jay Gatsby lived. The four briny of characters of this book are each actors in Fitzgeralds slap-up tragedy.




Tom and Daisy are a young married tally who love to enjoy themselves no matter what they are doing and drop their vast amounts of wealth to achieve this. Nick is their cousin who comes to coherent Island to go to school to study to be a stock broker and gets caught up in the middle of all of the action. Gatsby is an obsessive young man with a bright future and secret past. Fitzgerald uses each of these four players to show the different roles that they play in the story.
Tom and Daisy are a pair of newly-weds whose marriage is on the rocks. He has an affair and she is not willing to get a divorce because she likes his money and the security of being in a marriage.
