The Great Gatsby is a raw written by F. Scott Fitzgerald. In this novel Fitzgerald candidly depicts human nature at its worst, and the corrupted version of the American Dream. The figurative stage is set in the Roaring Twenties, a clock period in which America experienced peace, prosperity and partying. The U.S. had however come out of World War I exultant and was enjoying the spoils of war. Alcohol had been illegalized by the 18th amendment in 1917. Boot-legging was in full swing and speak-easys were popping up everywhere. Boot-legging was a lucrative business venture for those daring enough to sign up the risks and threats it brought with it. This is the setting in which Tom and Daisy Buchanan, Nick Carraway and Jay Gatsby lived. The four briny of characters of this book are each actors in Fitzgeralds slap-up tragedy.
