I joined the service when I was 17. To this day, I specifically dont remember why I joined since I had other opportunities, but what I do know is that it was the best time of my life. Like everyone, I started at the bottom, and it wasnt easy. I remember that my intentions when I graduation exercise went to the recruiting station were to get information since I was dummy up a high cultivate student at the time. When I maiden entered the recruiting station, the recruiter began to gather up the enlistment paperwork as if I was fake to sign it. I shook his hand and that is when everything started. I proceeded to institutionalise him my information and my graduation info. By the end of the day, I was impetuous and I do the commitment. I signed a slow down Entry Program contract that stated that when I graduated, I would enlist not later than four months.
Since I was still seventeen, I had to get my parents signature as well, and they did not appear to mind as long as that was what I wanted. The course of study was 2001, and I was a junior in high schooltime that year. I went to speak with my guidance counselor and she said that I could graduate that same year in summer school if I wanted to, and thats what I did.
During the summer my family took a trip home to Spain to see our relatives and I was glad because I would be able to see my girlfriend of 3 historic period before I enlisted. After the summer, I began the processing at the military processing station in Richmond, Virginia and proceeded to fly to peachy lakes, Illinois on September 25, 2001. I remember we arrived in neat Lakes for Basic Training around 3 am when I received a wake up call that made me question if I actually wanted to go by means of with this. From the moment we arrived, we received a welcome from five furnish military members yelling and screaming at the top of their lungs. We were direct at a fast pace into a giant hallway where they recruit commanders asked Does anyone have ohs in their kind security number?
