Louis Riel was a Canadian politician. He was the founder of Manitoba. He was a leader of the Métis of the Canadian prairies. Louis David Riel was born at Saint-Boniface, Manitoba, on Oct. 23, 1844, of Métis parents. Louis Riels parents were Julie Lagimodiere and Jean-Louis Riel. His quickness of mind was early accept by the priests at Saint-Boniface, and Riel was sent east to study at the Seminaire de St-Sulpice in Montreal when he was fourteen.
