Love and lust have twain very different meanings one contradicts the other. Love can be defined as an intense feeling of deep meat and lust can be defined as a very strong sexual desire.
In Rapture the song Row shows exactly that dear and lust can never exist in the same relationship. This is shown by the continuous repeating of the word no kiss as said supra lust is a strong sexual desire. It is shown to us the commentators by having the poem separated in 4 stanzas and there is a regular rhythm of the poem which suggests that the relationship is continuous and st adapted. thither are also some words that Carol Anne Duffy has chosen that are very aggressive words like jaggered. It gets the reader thinking that if love did exist in a relationship with lust would words like jaggered be used if love was in the same relationship.
This is the same with the novel The Great Gatsby, I believe Nick and Jordans relationship is based on lust rather than love this is shown in the rootage while Nick meets Jordan is when he goes to eat at Tom and Daisys. The first impression of her is that she is a high class pretty lady. later on you find out that she isnt like every other girl because she is pursuing an athletic career.
After Nick realizes who Jordan is the infamous play player he remembers a clipping about her in the newspaper. The clipping about Jordan describes her real personality; a dishonest, careless, victimize girl that lives in her richness. Even after realizing what Jordan was like, Nick calm feels a sort of attraction to her.
His attraction toward Jordan is more of a fantasy that he wishes he could have but he knows he wont because hes not the type of person that could live with mortal so unthoughtful of others. The relationship between the two develops because they are constantly put together by similarities such as knowing the same people.
