Society nowadays influences female childs to try to be something that theyre not. Young girls starve, purge, put on unreasonable amounts of make-up, and wear clothes that are unfitting in night club to be viewed “acceptable” by society. It’s a pitiful and dangerous problem, and it’s happening all around us to girls of every age group. Girls are being influenced this way at younger and younger ages as time progresses. Both the metrical composition “Barbie Doll” by Marge Piercy and song “Barbie Girl” by Aqua represent this issue.

In Piercys meter, a girl tries as hard as she can to change herself in night club to make others uniform her, unaware that she is beautiful the way she is.

This girl child was born as usual

And presented dolls that did pee-pee

And miniature GE stoves and irons

And teensy-weensy lipsticks the color of cherry candy

Then in the magic of puberty, a classmate said:

The little girl in this poem thinks she is living in a perfect world, there is cryptograph bothering her. Then society tells her she has to change for people to like her. She course feels like she needs to change because of the way her peers pick on her. The author presents this in the beginning of the poem in edict to transition into what happens at the end of the story.
