Sendak uses Maxs imitation of his mothers use of power as well as im suppurate and textual clues to showcase Maxs desire for power, and desire to function others, just as he perceives people with power to do.
When Max is first introduced, Max has a desire to control the world around him just comparable many other children his age who wish to be the one in charge. Through the illustrations, Sendak shows Max trying to control his dog just like his mother controlled him, creating mischief by making a mess, and attaching a populate to his walls with nails. Max is imagining up his devour power and using it as he wishes before he even visits the land of the fruity things. Sendak even shows an early depiction of what the wild things look like on his wall. Early on, Max is trying to create his own world. After Max tries to use the authority he wishes to have and exclaims to his mammy, ILL EAT YOU UP! Maxs mom sends him to bed without dinner.
Max sees his mom telling him what to do, and he wishes that he could have that same power. Max longs for the ability to have authority, and to be able to tell others what to do. After Max finally goes to his bed, he starts to actually visit his made-up world. While all this is exit on, Max is also wearing a wolf fit with the hood up. This shows that he is imaging things, and the suit becomes symbolic ulterior on in the story.
Because Max saw what having authority could do, he desires power and starts to imagine what this power could lead to. While Max is sitting in his room pouting about having to go to bed without dinner, his imaginary world starts to come to life. At first, the picture on the page shows one plant in his room.
